A proposed AI data center in Bonner, Montana, is now canceled after the property owner withdrew his signature from the application. The project, submitted by KRAMBU, had faced multiple application issues and public controversy. Missoula County commissioners are now considering a county-wide moratorium on data centers.

A proposed 29-megawatt AI data center at Bonner Mill Industrial Park in Bonner, Missoula County, Montana, is no longer moving forward. Property owner Mike Heisey, representing Bonner Property, withdrew his signature from the special exception application submitted by KRAMBU, effectively killing the project after public feedback on local concerns.

KRAMBU had initially submitted the application in March to transform the old mill site into a "sustainable environmental footprint" AI data center. However, Missoula County planners found deficiencies in the application over several months, including a failure to specify the placement of backup generators.

Karen Hughes, director of the Missoula County Planning, Development and Sustainability department, confirmed that without the property owner's agreement, KRAMBU cannot pursue the data center at this specific location, though the company is free to explore other sites. In response to ongoing discussions and public input, the Missoula County commissioners are scheduled to hold a public meeting on Thursday to evaluate a potential county-wide moratorium on data center developments.
