Amazon Web Services has filed an official site plan for a data center in Calvert County, Maryland, which is currently under review by county departments. This development occurs amid ongoing resident opposition to data centers in the area and following previous failed attempts to enact a moratorium on such projects.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has submitted an official site plan for a new data center, named the Calvert Technology Center, in Calvert County, Maryland. The Calvert County government confirmed the receipt of the application and associated fees in early May.

The Concept Site Plan is now subject to review by various county government departments and other regulatory agencies. This application comes at a time of continued resident pushback against data center developments in the county, alongside controversy surrounding existing agreements with data center companies.

Previous efforts by County Commissioners Mike Hart and Catherine Grasso to implement a temporary moratorium on data center construction were unsuccessful. Additionally, a May 5 vote aimed to compel new data centers to comply with updated text amendments, preventing them from being "grandfathered in" under older regulations. Jason Brinkley, the Director of Planning and Zoning, had earlier confirmed in April that AWS had also submitted documents to the Maryland Department of the Environment for review.
