The Clinton City Council advanced a proposed zoning ordinance intended to establish new guardrails for data center development. The measure passed its first of three required votes during a Tuesday meeting held at Eagle Point Lodge, where public attendance filled most of the available seating.

Councilmember Gregg Obren said the city needs to put regulations in place despite disagreements over the details. Two additional council votes are required before the ordinance can take effect.
