Trenton voters approve ban on data centers larger than 25 megawatts
Trenton voters approved a ban on data centers larger than 25 megawatts, with nearly 80% supporting the measure. The restriction could affect a 250-megawatt data center that Prologis is building in the city’s industrial park, though its future remains unclear.
Trenton voters approved a ban on data centers exceeding 25 megawatts by a 79.68% margin. The measure was advanced by Woodsdale and Trenton Environmental Resistance, known as W.A.T.E.R., whose members cited concerns about noise, diesel generators, water consumption and emissions from large facilities.
The vote could constrain a 250-megawatt data center already under construction by Prologis in Trenton’s industrial park. W.A.T.E.R. co-founder Lori Blankenship said the group’s attorneys believe the project may be limited to 25 megawatts, but the effect of the new restriction remains uncertain. The group plans to shift its attention to city leadership and a potential recall petition.
