Texas regulators, led by Public Utility Commission Chair Thomas Gleeson, are proposing to ease requirements for data centers seeking to connect to the state's power grid. The new proposal would lower fees for large loads and add standards to demonstrate site readiness. If projects meet the minimum requirements, they would be included in the first round of grid interconnection studies by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT). Officials are working to ensure reliable electricity without causing price spikes as new demand comes online and requires infrastructure expansion.
