Spokane County commissioners unanimously vote to pause data center applications
Spokane County Commissioners have unanimously approved a resolution to pause land use and permit applications for data centers until December 15, 2026. This decision aims to provide the County's Planning Department with time to draft a zoning text amendment and gather public input. Public hearings on the proposed changes will be scheduled.
The Spokane County Board of Commissioners has unanimously approved a resolution to enact a moratorium on land use and permit applications for data centers. The pause, announced by county officials on Tuesday, will remain in effect until December 15, 2026.
Board Chair Mary Brooks stated that the measure provides the County's Planning Department sufficient time to draft a new zoning text amendment for data centers and allows for two opportunities to gather public input on the matter. This decision addresses growing community interest in data center development.
Public hearings on the draft zoning text amendment will be scheduled by the County Planning Commission. Additionally, the Board of Commissioners plans to schedule a separate public hearing within 60 days of the resolution's approval, though specific dates, times, and locations have not yet been released.
