More than a thousand residents packed a public forum in Leavenworth County, Kansas, to express overwhelming opposition to the proposed Project Bluestem hyperscale data center and power plant. The facility, which is planned for over 1,000 acres south of Tonganoxie, was the subject of intense community feedback during a nearly three-hour meeting.
Leavenworth County Commissioners Mike Stieben, Vanessa Reid, and Jeff Culbertson were present to hear a continuous line of residents share their concerns. The event saw an overflow crowd, with hundreds standing due to capacity limitations.
Following the public comments, the attending commissioners acknowledged that they shared many of the concerns raised by the residents regarding the project. They indicated that they would be conducting additional research before making any decisions on the controversial development.
