A SLU/YouGov poll surveyed Missouri voters on their opinions regarding various state matters, including data center construction. The poll revealed low support for data centers, particularly for projects in local communities, driven by concerns over environmental and electricity impacts. Suburban voters showed significantly higher opposition to local data center development compared to statewide projects.

A recent February 2026 SLU/YouGov Poll surveyed 900 likely Missouri voters, gauging their opinions on a range of issues including a proposed abortion amendment, state income taxes, and data center construction. The comprehensive statewide poll provided insights into public sentiment on matters being considered by the Missouri state government.
The survey specifically explored voter attitudes towards data center development, revealing significant public skepticism. Only 30% of voters expressed support for a data center being built in their local community, while 31% supported one being constructed anywhere in the state of Missouri. Conversely, 49% opposed a local data center, compared to 44% who opposed a statewide project.
According to Steven Rogers, Ph.D., SLU/YouGov Poll Director, opposition tends to increase when voters consider a data center closer to home. He noted that suburban voters, in particular, opposed a local data center by a 32-point margin, a margin that narrowed to 16 points when considering a statewide project. Proponents of data centers highlight potential new revenue sources, while opponents voiced concerns primarily about environmental and electricity impacts.
