A citizen group known as Stop the Hermantown Data Center (SHDC) has announced the filing of a lawsuit against the city of Hermantown, Minnesota. The action stems from the group's opposition to a proposed Google hyperscale data center in the area, which they allege was improperly facilitated by city officials.
SHDC's complaint asserts that the city violated spot-zoning restrictions and "otherwise improperly changed" zoning regulations within the Adolph neighborhood. Furthermore, the nonprofit group claims the city contravened multiple state laws in its pursuit of the data center's development. The group plans to hold a press conference in front of Hermantown City Hall to discuss the lawsuit.
City officials have not yet issued a response to the allegations.
