PPL to present preferred data center transmission line route in Union, Lycoming counties
PPL Electric Utilities will present a preferred 6.8-mile route for new 230-kilovolt transmission lines in Union and Lycoming counties. The line is intended to support a new customer facility, specifically a data center, while farmers and other stakeholders have raised concerns about routes crossing farmland and state game lands.
PPL Electric Utilities plans to present its preferred route for approximately 6.8 miles of double-circuit 230-kilovolt transmission line at an Oct. 28 meeting in Allenwood. The line would run from the existing Elimsport substation to a new customer facility near U.S. Route 15, with portions crossing State Game Lands 252 in Brady and Washington townships in Lycoming County and Gregg Township in Union County.
PPL said the project would support growing energy needs and a new data center customer, which the utility has not identified. PNK Group of New York City is the only developer publicly known to be pursuing a data center in Gregg Township. Farmers and Pennsylvania Farm Bureau members have opposed proposed routes crossing farmland, while PPL said it considered feedback from landowners, residents, businesses and local officials.
