The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council voted unanimously to remove data centers as a primary use in six zoning districts, blocking new facilities in those areas. It also asked the Lexington-Fayette Planning Commission to create a stand-alone data center zone, though no land would initially be designated for that use.

Council member Emma Curtis described the action as a community victory and said future data center proposals would require a zone change approved by the Planning Commission and ultimately the council. The council previously extended the county’s data center moratorium until October 2027, giving officials additional time to revise local regulations.
