Bulloch County's newly formed Data Center Committee elected its leaders and began reviewing proposed regulations for future data center development. The committee voted to place a request to extend the county's existing moratorium on its next agenda, though any extension would require approval from the full Board of Commissioners.

Gov: Bulloch County Board of Commissioners, Bulloch County Data Center Committee

The 15-member Bulloch County Data Center Committee held its first meeting, electing retired trauma surgeon Frank Davis as chairman and businessman Glenn Womack as vice chairman. The committee will meet twice monthly to study the potential infrastructure, environmental, financial and community impacts of data centers and review the county's draft zoning regulations.

The committee voted to consider requesting an extension of the county's data center moratorium, which is scheduled to expire at the end of the year. County Commission Chairman David Bennett said a 180-day extension could be legally justified, but emphasized that only the full Board of Commissioners can approve it. Members will examine issues including electricity demand, water and wastewater capacity, noise, traffic, emergency services, stormwater and infrastructure costs before issuing recommendations.
