Data center developers donate $10 million to update Colorado City water system
Three data center development companies, Cypher Digital, Fluid Stick, and Anthropic, have donated $10 million to repair and upgrade Colorado City's municipal water system. This funding will address repeated water outages and improve the city's water infrastructure, including storage and capacity. The companies are also forming a foundation to work with city leaders on the project.
Colorado City is set to receive a $10 million financial boost to overhaul its struggling water system. Data center development firms Cypher Digital, Fluid Stick, and Anthropic have collectively committed the funds for critical repairs and upgrades to the city's water infrastructure.
The donation comes after Colorado City experienced persistent water outages, including a notable incident in July that left residents without a reliable water supply for several days. According to city officials, the $10 million will be allocated to projects such as increasing water storage, replacing deteriorating valves, and enhancing the overall water capacity within the municipal system.
In addition to the direct funding, the companies are establishing the Colorado City Water Infrastructure Foundation. This new entity will collaborate closely with local government, including the mayor and city manager, to oversee the implementation of the water improvement projects. Officials emphasized that the nearby Barbour Lake Data Center operates on its own self-sufficient water supply, ensuring that every gallon of added capacity from this project will directly benefit Colorado City residents.
