Skybox seeks rezoning for Hutto Megasite
Skybox Datacenters received approval from the Hutto City Council to rezone a 140-acre parcel in the Hutto Megasite for a data center and power station. The approval includes requirements for closed-loop cooling, compliance with Hutto land development codes, and payment of local sales taxes, while power availability remains a challenge tied to ERCOT conditions.
Skybox Datacenters asked Hutto City Council to rezone a 140-acre parcel in the Hutto Megasite for a data center and power station. The request was prompted by an agreement with the Hutto Economic Development Corporation that expires in February, although the site does not yet have a tenant.
The council approved the rezoning with conditions requiring closed-loop cooling technology, compliance with Hutto land development codes, and payment of local sales taxes on construction and power generation. Skybox Chief Development Officer Haynes Strader said securing power could take another two years, after which the company could begin the next phase of its campus, including its fifth and sixth data centers at the megasite.
