Gov: Botetourt County, Botetourt County Board of Supervisors
Google has officially announced the development of a data center campus in Botetourt County, Virginia, at the Botetourt Center at Greenfield. This confirmation marks a significant corporate investment for Southwest Virginia, following Google's purchase of approximately 312 acres for $14 million in June 2025 and an additional $4 million commitment to county initiatives.
County officials, including Administrator Gary Larrowe and Board of Supervisors Chair Mac Scothorn, lauded the partnership, emphasizing the transformative economic benefits for Botetourt County. The project is expected to generate at least $10 million in annual local taxation from each of the three data centers planned for the campus, creating a stable revenue source for public safety, school infrastructure, and other amenities.
Google has committed to a "Responsible Infrastructure Development" approach, taking full responsibility for the required infrastructure. The company will cover 100% of the power and water costs, with these upgrades also bolstering regional utilities and addressing long-term needs like a future water source planned for 2060. Google’s Head of Data Center Public Affairs, North America, Amber Tillman, reiterated the company's dedication to driving innovation while protecting local resources and supporting the local workforce.
