Amazon Web Services investment in St. Joseph County data center campus surpasses $13.8 billion
Amazon Web Services has surpassed its initial $11 billion investment goal for its data center campus in New Carlisle, St. Joseph County, Indiana, now investing over $13.8 billion. The project is still underway, with 18 of about 30 planned buildings currently operational. This development has created over 1,000 permanent jobs, with 800 Hoosiers and 450 St. Joseph County residents hired.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) executives and local leaders in Northwest Indiana recently met to discuss the significant progress of the AWS data center campus under construction in New Carlisle, St. Joseph County.
Brenda Neuer, Director of Power and Water for Amazon Web Services in North America, announced that the investment in the project has now exceeded $13.8 billion, far surpassing the initial goal of an $11 billion investment. Neuer noted that the project is only partially complete, with much more development expected. The campus is anticipated to include about 30 buildings in total, with 18 already operational.
Jeff Ray, President of the South Bend Chamber of Commerce, highlighted the project's positive impact on local development, particularly in the construction industry. He noted that the construction site has seen up to 4,000 workers at times. More significantly, the project has created over 1,000 permanent jobs, exceeding the initial estimate of 400-600 jobs. Of those hired, more than 800 are Hoosiers, and approximately 450 are from St. Joseph County, demonstrating the company's commitment to local employment.
