Minnesota congressional candidate Matt Little criticizes data center tax breaks
Minnesota congressional candidate Matt Little criticizes a 35-year sales tax exemption for data centers, saying taxpayers should not subsidize companies that choose to build in the state. He argues the break, which could extend through 2077 for facilities built in 2042, is unfair to Minnesota residents.
Matt Little, a Democratic candidate for Minnesota's 2nd Congressional District, criticized the state's data center tax policy during an interview with AM950 The Progressive Voice of Minnesota. He said taxpayers in Minnesota and his district should not have to contribute to data center development and that companies should finance their own construction.
Little referred to legislation passed by the Minnesota Legislature in June that provides a 35-year sales tax exemption for data centers. He argued that the incentive is deeply unfair because ordinary taxpayers and other businesses do not receive comparable tax relief.
