Dade County Commissioner Melissa C. Bradford to Call for 90-Day Moratorium on Data Center Development
Dade County Commissioner Melissa C. Bradford plans to introduce a proposal for a 90-day moratorium on approving new data center projects. The proposed pause would allow the county to assess impacts on water, power, roads, emergency services and other infrastructure, while holding public hearings and considering future regulations.
Dade County Commissioner Melissa C. Bradford said she will propose a 90-day moratorium on approval of all new data center projects at an upcoming County Commissioners workshop. She said the pause would give the county time to evaluate demands on water systems, the electrical grid, roads, emergency services and other infrastructure before allowing additional development.
Bradford also called for public hearings and review of potential regulations, tax incentives and cost-sharing requirements for future projects. The proposal has not yet been approved, and residents and local business owners were encouraged to attend the Board of County Commissioners meeting to weigh in.
