Families in Appomattox County are opposing Dominion Energy’s proposed Elk Creek 230-kilovolt transmission line, which would help power a planned data center. Residents say the routes would cut through generational farms, while Dominion says it will consider community feedback and environmental and historical impacts before seeking approval from the Virginia State Corporation Commission.

Dominion Energy held a community meeting in Appomattox County about the proposed Elk Creek Project, formerly called the Zeus 230 kV Electric Transmission Project. The line would run from a substation in Farmville to Appomattox County and support electricity demand associated with a proposed data center. If approved by the Virginia State Corporation Commission, construction could begin in 2029 and finish in 2030.

Residents said the proposed routes would divide or damage generational farms and add to the impacts of another transmission project, the Valley Link line. Dominion spokesperson Craig Carper said the company would use public feedback to evaluate route changes and consider environmental and historical effects, but the project still requires regulatory approval.
