Commissioners indicated they would utilize this year to conduct thorough research into the potential effects of data centers in the area, with the agreement stipulating deadlines for research progress. The board is also required to meet at least 30 days before the moratorium's expiration to decide on whether to let it lapse or extend it. In a related development, the city of Greensboro also independently voted to approve its own 180-day data center moratorium.
