Montgomery County Councilmember Evan Glass is advocating for the creation of a Data Center Task Force during the county's current six-month moratorium on new data center permit applications. The task force aims to review potential impacts of data center development and gather input from various stakeholders. A previous proposal for a similar task force failed to advance in January.

Montgomery County Councilmember Evan Glass is reneweing his call for a Data Center Task Force in Montgomery County, Maryland, following the County's recent six-month moratorium on new data center permit applications.

Glass emphasized that the task force would offer a structured approach to evaluate the potential impacts of data center development, soliciting feedback from a diverse group of stakeholders, including environmental organizations, civic groups, utility companies, labor unions, and industry representatives. His initial legislation to establish a 15-member task force, introduced in January, did not move forward after failing to secure co-sponsors and being rejected in committee.

Now, Glass is urging the County to reconsider his proposal during the ongoing moratorium period. He suggests the group could study data center development thoroughly and offer crucial recommendations before any new projects are permitted to advance.
