Gov: Louisiana Economic Development, Richland Parish officials
Louisiana Economic Development and Richland Parish officials have finalized a unique tax incentive agreement with Meta for a massive data center project at the Holly Ridge site in Richland Parish. The deal, structured in 2024 following a state act, grants property tax breaks to data centers that invest at least $200 million and create 50 permanent jobs by July 1, 2029. Meta's project, with current estimates soaring to $2.7 billion, is expected to far exceed these thresholds.
The agreement is divided into four tiers, with Meta paying a decreasing percentage of standard property tax as its investment and job creation increase. For example, a $5 billion investment and 300 permanent jobs would result in 40% of property taxes paid, dropping to 20% with higher investment. Additionally, Meta is responsible for repairing any parish roads damaged by increased usage during the construction phase, with pre-construction assessments already completed. This deal aims to pave the way for more data centers in Louisiana.
