New Hampshire Gov. Kelly Ayotte Calls for Data Center Moratorium
New Hampshire Gov. Kelly Ayotte said she opposes data centers in the state and plans to include a moratorium in her budget if re-elected. She cited concerns about energy costs, grid impacts, environmental damage, noise and water usage, and opposed proposed projects in Nottingham and Bow.
New Hampshire Gov. Kelly Ayotte said during WMUR's candidate town hall that she does not believe data centers are a good fit for the state and would seek a moratorium on new facilities through her budget if re-elected. She said she has already drafted the moratorium and argued that data centers could worsen the state's high electricity costs and strain the power grid.
Ayotte also cited potential environmental damage, noise and water consumption, and said she opposed data center proposals earlier this year in Nottingham and Bow that faced strong resident opposition. The interview additionally covered housing, immigration, energy affordability and other statewide issues.
