Residents in Grimes County, Texas, gathered at a community meeting on Thursday to seek transparency regarding a potential data center development. Local online concerns have grown over a report that a company, Geronimo Power, is considering approximately 800 acres for a data center and an additional 2000-2500 acres for a solar farm, totaling about 3000 acres.
The meeting was organized by Julie Hernandez and Marie Egyed of Grimes County Citizens for Responsible Development, who emphasized their desire for a "seat at the table" and "responsible development" rather than being anti-progress.
Rancher Joseph Reznichek highlighted worries about the project's extensive water demands, stating that "Water being taken out of the ground here for large corporate use for a data center is going to impact hundreds, if not thousands of people," particularly given ongoing drought conditions.
Officials have not yet disclosed the exact project location and reassured the community that no final decisions have been made, pledging to prioritize the community's best interests.
