This Is Reno joined a legal effort with Nevada press and open-government groups to intervene in NV Energy’s lawsuit against data center developer Tract and Reno Power. The coalition is asking a Washoe County court to unseal records concerning electricity demands, infrastructure costs, power agreements and potential arbitration tied to two proposed data centers in Storey County.

This Is Reno has joined a legal effort seeking public access to sealed records in NV Energy’s lawsuit against data center developer Tract and Reno Power.
This Is Reno joined Our Nevada Judges, the Nevada Press Association and the Nevada Open Government Coalition in two motions filed Oct. 7. One seeks permission to intervene for the limited purpose of pursuing public access. The other asks the Washoe County court to unseal records in the case.
NV Energy alleges Tract is seeking enormous amounts of electricity for two large data centers in Storey County and wants to shift infrastructure and energy costs to Nevada customers. Tract disputes those claims and says enforcing its contract with NV Energy would allow nearly $1 billion in network upgrades benefiting ratepayers.
The coalition argues that confidentiality agreements alone do not justify sealing court records and that the public has an interest in information about the power agreements, potential arbitration and the possible impact of the projects on Nevada residents.
Attorneys Chris Peterson of the ACLU of Nevada and Luke Busby represent the coalition.
