Seven historic buildings in downtown Monroe, Louisiana, owned by Blue Cross and Blue Shield, are up for sale with a combined asking price of $23 million, totaling nearly 300,000 square feet. City officials, including Monroe Mayor Friday Ellis, view these properties as prime opportunities as the city expects substantial economic growth.
This anticipated boom stems from a $27 billion Meta data center currently under construction in rural Richland Parish, located less than 30 miles east of Monroe.
Mayor Ellis emphasized that the Meta data center serves as a "catalyst" attracting other businesses to the region, leading to a rising demand for office space. The City Council and Mayor's Office have already invested millions in downtown infrastructure, supporting private developments in retail, office, and housing sectors. The properties for sale include the six-story State Building and the 11-story Vantage Tower, both built in the 1920s, alongside five other century-old buildings. The city anticipates new life being breathed into downtown Monroe through mixed-use developments.
