The Village of Mahomet ended discussions with Clean Cloud Energy about a proposed data center in a nearby rural area. Mayor Jason Tompkins said overwhelming resident opposition significantly influenced the decision not to move forward.
The Village of Mahomet has ended discussions with Clean Cloud Energy over a potential data center project in a nearby rural area. The village said it had been discussing a possible development agreement with the company since September 28.
Mayor Jason Tompkins said feedback from residents, including hundreds who opposed the project at a recent community meeting, played a significant role in the decision. Mahomet officials said the project did not align with the community’s long-term priorities and that the village would continue pursuing other types of development.
