Sepulveda: Cameron County ramping up bridge marketing, pushing regional approach for water and energy infrastructure
Cameron County is expanding efforts to market its international bridges and develop regional infrastructure strategies for water, electricity and digital connectivity. The county recently issued a site development permit for an unnamed data center project near Harlingen, adjacent to the Port of Harlingen.
Pete Sepulveda, executive director of the Cameron County Regional Mobility Authority, said Cameron County is increasing marketing of its international bridge system to attract commercial traffic and logistics activity. He also highlighted the deepening of the Port of Brownsville ship channel and the county’s broader regional economic development efforts.
Sepulveda said Cameron County is working with Willacy and Starr counties, irrigation districts and private stakeholders on solutions to water scarcity and is coordinating around electric power and fiber infrastructure. He disclosed that the county recently issued a site development permit for an unnamed data center project near Harlingen, adjacent to the Port of Harlingen, while emphasizing that adequate utilities will be essential to future industrial growth.
