Developer Jim DePetris has provided an update to the Smithfield Township Planning Commission regarding a proposed data center project at Smithfield Gateway. The sketch plan outlines two data center buildings, each approximately 125,000 square feet, along with a supporting power substation. One building is slated to be located behind the St. Luke's Health Center-Smithfield Gateway area. Smithfield Township Supervisor Jacob Pride noted that a public hearing will be scheduled once a formal submission for the project is made. The township's existing data center ordinance permits such facilities as a conditional use on properties zoned for Economic Development, which includes the proposed site.
