Milwaukee Event to Highlight Community Concerns Over Wisconsin Data Centers
The Working Majority is organizing a free “Data Center Detectives” scavenger hunt in Milwaukee’s Walker’s Point and Third Ward neighborhoods to educate residents about the environmental, economic and social effects of AI data centers. The event will also highlight ways communities can oppose proposed facilities across Wisconsin.
The Working Majority, founded by Pete Sarkoviak, will host a free scavenger hunt in Milwaukee’s Walker’s Point and Third Ward neighborhoods focused on the effects of AI data centers on water, electricity, taxes and local communities. Participants will visit informational stops and learn how residents can organize against data center construction.
The event follows the group’s statewide listening tour, during which data centers and artificial intelligence emerged as major economic concerns. Sarkoviak said the organization is connecting with communities in places including Port Washington, Janesville, Beaver Dam and Kenosha, where municipalities have either passed or considered moratoriums while other projects move forward.
