A proposed $10 billion data center in the Waco area, led by InfraKey Capital, is progressing as the company has filed a petition with the city of Waco. InfraKey Capital seeks to develop on more than 500 acres along Taylor Lane, just north of Lacy Lakeview, and has requested the city release this land from its extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ).
Under Texas law, the city of Waco has 45 days to act on the petition and is legally required to release the land if all requirements are met, without the need for a public hearing or city council vote. The Lacy Lakeview city manager has expressed support for the land release, stating that annexing the property would allow the city to impose noise and light restrictions on InfraKey Capital, offering more protection to neighbors than would otherwise exist.
Despite the city manager's view, local residents are voicing significant concerns. They have been consistently attending city council meetings to push back against the proposed data center project, making their opposition clearly heard.
