The town hall is part of Laredo's proactive strategy to evaluate how to regulate high-resource industries, even though the city and Webb County have not yet received any formal data center applications. The Laredo City Council previously directed staff to develop a regulatory framework for industries with substantial water and utility demands, as the existing Land Development Code prohibits unlisted uses.
This framework aims to address concerns like water usage, electrical demand, cooling technologies, land use compatibility, and environmental impacts before any development proposals reach the council.
