Liberty County residents urged to act on TCEQ comment deadline for Raywood plant -
Liberty County residents are urged to submit comments to the TCEQ regarding QYK Brands LLC's proposed project in Raywood, which is now being discussed for a possible data center. Residents have expressed widespread concern about the project and its potential impacts. The deadline for comments and hearing requests is imminent.
QYK Brands LLC has applied for an Air Quality Standard Permit for a temporary concrete batch plant at 99 CR 182 near Raywood, Liberty County, Texas. This site, initially considered for a methacrylic acid plastics plant, is now being discussed as a potential data center project, causing widespread concern among local residents.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has set an imminent deadline (May 26 or 27) for public comments and hearing requests regarding the permit. Residents are advised to submit comments immediately, particularly those living within 440 yards of the proposed plant who may qualify for a contested case hearing.
Criticism has arisen because the required public notice was published in a limited circulation newspaper in neighboring Jefferson County instead of Liberty County. While TCEQ stated it would not consider concerns regarding property values, traffic, noise, or zoning, comments related to air quality and emissions will be reviewed during the permit process.
