QTS, a data center company, has announced a $5 million grant to bolster the skilled trades workforce pipeline across Eastern Iowa. This investment, described by leaders as the largest single investment in Iowa by QTS in 2024, aims to address the nationwide challenge of workforce development by preparing Iowans for in-demand careers in construction, advanced manufacturing, and related trades. Juliet Abdel, president and CEO of the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance, emphasized the collaborative nature of the investment in solving this challenge.

QTS officials stated that the program is part of their commitment to the communities where they build data centers, intending to train, retain, and grow the local workforce as data center projects expand in the region. The project currently supports 4,500 skilled trades workers. Blackstone Infrastructure Strategies is also a key partner in the program, connecting workers with training and career opportunities and promoting local apprenticeships to help power the economy and the ongoing digital revolution. The report concluded with Deiondre Lewis reporting from Cedar Rapids.
