Wednesday’s Data Center Speaker Cancels; Previous Sessions, Q&A on Tomorrow’s Agenda

This follows a cancellation by an expert speaker, but the session will still include a Q&A and a review of past presentations from experts on grid challenges, local impacts, and energy consumption.
The City of Sheboygan held a scheduled meeting to discuss data center issues, despite the cancellation of the expert speaker. The meeting, held at Uptown Social, included a review of the previous three speakers and a question-and-answer session.
Past sessions featured prominent figures such as Becky Valcq, President of Alliant Energy, who highlighted the inevitable challenges data centers pose to the electrical grid despite their potential benefits. Dr. Ben Green, co-author of "What Happens When Data Centers Come to Town," provided insights into the local economic and resource impacts, emphasizing the need for robust zoning laws to manage these effects.
Bridget Williams, Senior Policy Coordinator for the Great Plains Institute, addressed the varying energy demands of data centers, noting that some large facilities could consume nearly three times the capacity of the entire Point Beach Nuclear Plant. These discussions and findings are intended to inform the development of future zoning laws in Sheboygan to regulate any potential data center developments.
