Middlesex Township officials in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, are holding discussions regarding the next phase of the $15 billion PAX-1 data center project. This phase, known as Phase 1B, involves the construction of a six-building data center campus on a 700-acre property along Country Club Road. The Township Planning Commission is also reviewing the final land development plan for Phase 1A, which is currently under construction, including the facility's substation. During the meeting, which was still ongoing at the time of the report, residents expressed significant opposition to the project. Concerns raised by neighbors included construction noises and explosions experienced during the initial phase of development, with one resident stating that the blasting shakes their house and rattles windows. FOX43's Matt Kleis reported live from outside the Middlesex Township Municipal Building on the back-and-forth between officials and residents. If the Planning Commission approves the preliminary plans for Phase 1B, the proposal will then move to the Board of Supervisors for a final vote at a meeting scheduled for May 6th.
