The Cortlandville Town Board unanimously approved a 12-month moratorium on data centers following supportive public comments and endorsements from the Cortland County Planning Department and Cortlandville Planning Board. The measure temporarily freezes most development, construction and operation of data facilities within the town, with limited exceptions for educational and on-site business uses.

Town attorney Keegan Coughlin said the moratorium is intended to give Cortlandville time to collaborate with county officials on permanent regulations. He noted that the town could draw on data center rules adopted by other municipalities while developing guidelines tailored to local conditions; officials said no data center applications are currently pending.
