A Goodhue County judge has issued a temporary restraining order, halting the development of a Google data center project in Pine Island, Minnesota. This judicial action comes after the Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy filed a lawsuit against the City of Pine Island and the developer, Ryan Companies.

The advocacy group contends that the project, known as Project Skyway, did not receive an adequate environmental impact study, despite the Pine Island City Council having approved a conditional use permit for the site in January. The legal challenge temporarily blocks the project's progress.

This lawsuit in Pine Island is not an isolated incident, as similar legal actions have been initiated to oppose data center projects in other Minnesota cities, including Lakeville, Hermantown, Monticello, and Faribault.
