Governor’s office cancels Okee-One data center project in Okeechobee County

The Governor's office has scrapped the controversial Okee-One data center project in Okeechobee County, according to an Okeechobee County Commissioner. This breaking news development was announced at noon. The Okee-One project, a proposed data campus, was to be led by Indian River State College. It was planned for more than 200 acres on state-owned land at the former Okeechobee School for Boys. As a result of the cancellation, the college will now be required to return a portion of the grant funding it received from the state. In a related development, the Okeechobee County Commission also voted against moving forward with a broader growth plan for the county.
