The public outburst followed what opponents described as a "bait and switch" concerning an upcoming meeting.
Originally anticipated as an open town hall for serious discussion, the meeting was re-slated by developers as a career fair and open house. Manuel Sanchez, District 5 Commissioner, defended the format, suggesting it allows for in-depth details, while Susanna Chaparro, District 4 Commissioner, criticized the change, calling it "una fiesta, una feria." Oracle, identified as the data center's tenant, issued a statement claiming the event is "designed to maximize community participation and engagement."
Dona Ana County, which previously approved billions of dollars in bonds for Project Jupiter, has agreed to establish a public comment website in response to community demand.
