Climate activist group claims over 100 N.J. municipalities have banned data centers
Climate Revolution Action Network claims that 110 New Jersey municipalities have enacted local bans on data centers and is calling for a statewide three-year moratorium. The group cites rising electricity costs, water and energy use, air pollution and noise, while Gov. Mikie Sherrill has signed laws requiring data-center reporting and utility accountability.
Climate Revolution Action Network says 110 New Jersey municipalities have banned data centers since the beginning of the year, making the state a national leader in local restrictions. The activist group, led by Executive Director Ben Dziobek, says residents across the state are opposing facilities because of their effects on electricity bills, water and energy consumption, air quality and noise.
Gov. Mikie Sherrill has signed legislation requiring data centers to report water and energy use every six months to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, along with measures holding utilities and data centers accountable. CRAN and allied groups, including the Pinelands Alliance, Food & Water Watch and Sustain South Jersey, are pressing for a statewide three-year moratorium while broader safeguards are developed.
