A Bulloch County committee is seeking a 180-day extension of the county’s moratorium on new data center applications. The additional time would allow the committee to develop zoning regulations addressing water, electricity, land use and the application process before the moratorium expires Dec. 31.

The Bulloch County Data Center Committee is asking county officials to extend the existing moratorium on new data center applications by 180 days. The moratorium is scheduled to expire Dec. 31, but the committee says it needs more time to complete proposed zoning rules and recommendations for the Bulloch County Board of Commissioners.

The 15-member committee held its first meeting and plans to meet twice monthly, with a goal of finishing its work by the summer. Chairman Frank Davis said the extension would give the county time to establish clear expectations for potential applicants and demonstrate due diligence to residents. Bulloch County Commission Chairman David Bennett said he supports allowing the committee additional time to produce well-developed recommendations rather than rushing the process.
