Two credit unions in Hidalgo County, Edinburg Teachers Credit Union and South Texas Federal Credit Union, are experiencing service disruptions due to a nationwide system outage. The outage, which began on Tuesday, stems from a cooling infrastructure failure at a third-party data center, impacting a core processor essential for daily banking transactions. Affected members, like Nelly Garcia, have been unable to access online banking services, check statements, deposit or withdraw money, and are concerned about bill payments.
Francisco Rangel, CEO of South Texas Federal Credit Union, confirmed that direct deposits are safe but current account information is inaccessible. Channel 5 News is working to identify the location of the data center and the third-party company responsible for the core processor, with no timeline yet on system restoration.
