Cheyenne City Council explores annexation of 1,197 acres for a new data center on Happy Jack Road
The Cheyenne City Council is holding a work session to discuss the proposed annexation of 1,197 acres of the Cox Ranch for a new data center development. The project involves Viawest and Skybox Data Centers and requires a zoning change from agricultural to business park. The annexation and zoning will proceed through several committee and council readings in September.
The Cheyenne City Council has scheduled a work session for Friday, August 28, to discuss the annexation of a 1,197.76-acre section of the Cox Ranch on Happy Jack Road for a new data center. The proposed development, led by Viawest and Skybox Data Centers, is located on the west side of Cheyenne, north of the North Range Business Park. While no votes will be taken and public comment will not be accepted at the work session, the annexation is a critical step for the project.
According to a city news release, the annexation discussion was postponed in April to allow for additional community engagement by the companies. The proposal is scheduled to be heard by the City Council's Public Services Committee for a second reading on September 8, followed by the full City Council on September 14. If approved at this stage, the annexation will return to the Public Services Committee and the full Council for a third and final reading. The project also entails a necessary zoning change from agricultural to business park to accommodate the data center.
