The East Drumore Township Board of Supervisors has advanced a draft of new zoning ordinance amendments aimed at regulating data center development within the township. During a meeting on September 3, the board approved the proposed changes, which seek to clarify standards, regulations, and definitions for the construction and maintenance of data centers.
Vice Chair Tim Redcay emphasized the necessity of these changes to improve communication regarding proposed data center operations and to illustrate regulatory compliance requirements. The draft ordinance specifies a minimum construction area of 10 acres for data centers, with a maximum aggregate of 100,000 square feet for the data center and all accessory structures. Chair Scott Kreider confirmed that any such construction would be restricted to industrial-zoned land.
The proposed amendments have now been referred to both the East Drumore Township and Lancaster County planning commissions for their review. Following these reviews, the ordinance is slated for a public hearing at the board's November 5 meeting, marking a significant step towards formalizing data center regulations in the area.
