Sioux County officials lift moratorium, approve data center regulations
Sioux County supervisors lifted a data center moratorium and approved regulations governing water, electricity, noise and required studies. The action allows companies to apply for projects, including a potential PathOne Data Centers facility near Hull, although one supervisor opposed ending the moratorium and said residents still had concerns.
The Sioux County Board of Supervisors voted to repeal a moratorium that had been in place since June and approve new regulations for data center development. The rules include safeguards for water, electricity and noise, with certificates of occupancy contingent on meeting specified thresholds and completing required studies.
Supervisor Carl Vande Weerd supported the changes, saying data center companies could now apply under the county's rules. Supervisor Dan Altena cast the lone dissenting vote, arguing that officials should continue discussions and keep the moratorium in place longer. PathOne Data Centers has announced it is considering a project near Hull in north-central Sioux County.
