Talise developers deny data center plans, clarify airpark proposal
Developers behind the Talise community in Webb County, Texas, clarified that an early planning map label of "Data Center/Airpark" does not reflect current plans for the project. Attorney David Earl confirmed there are no intentions to build a data center, with the focus now on an aviation-focused residential community. Concerns regarding water usage from Carrizo and Sparta aquifers for the overall development were also addressed.
Developers for the Talise community, located north of Laredo in Webb County, Texas, have clarified that a tract of land previously marked as "Data Center/Airpark" on a planning map will not house a data center. Attorney David Earl of Legacy Municipal Management District, who recently presented to Webb County Commissioners on transportation planning, stated with "absolute certainty" that no data center is planned for the 908-acre eastern portion of the master plan.
Earl explained that the "Data Center/Airpark" designation originated from an early concept developed three years ago, when the site's proximity to railroad infrastructure for a potential fiber optic corridor made a data center a consideration. However, developers ultimately decided to pursue an aviation-focused residential community, which is now identified as Phase V of the Talise master plan. This plan includes a runway exceeding 6,000 feet, private aircraft hangars, and adjacent high-end residential development.
The presentation to county leaders was primarily focused on transportation infrastructure and access to Interstate 35, according to Earl, to ensure safe travel without interfering with railroad tracks. During discussions of future development, Earl also addressed concerns about water usage, noting that the Legacy Water Supply Corporation, serving Talise, plans to draw and treat water from deep Carrizo wells.
