SpaceXAI to remove 69 temporary turbines at Southaven facility by 2027
SpaceXAI has reached an agreement with the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality to remove 69 temporary turbines from its Southaven data center facility. The company is transitioning to permanent power from a 1.2 GW plant and investing in noise reduction and advanced emission control technologies. All temporary turbines are expected to be removed by July 2027.
SpaceXAI, formerly known as xAI, has entered into an agreement with the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality to dismantle all 69 temporary turbines at its Southaven data center. The company announced its rapid removal of these mobile turbines as it works to bring a permanent 1.2 GW power plant online, which was approved under its Clean Air Act permit in March. This new facility will house 41 permanent gas turbines.
SpaceXAI stated that the temporary turbines would be removed in phases, beginning as early as August and concluding by July 2027. The company is also committing millions to install sound walls, silencers, and new-generation turbines featuring advanced quieting technologies, in collaboration with the surrounding community. SpaceXAI emphasized its dedication to being a good neighbor by reconfiguring operations to minimize noise and investing in emission control technologies, including selective catalytic reduction devices, which it says ensures local air quality meets or exceeds EPA standards.
