Chillicothe Council Reviews Regulations for Proposed Chilpaco Data Center
Chillicothe officials are reviewing how to regulate a proposed data center at the former Chilpaco site. Council received legal advice on data centers, while a revised moratorium was sent to the law director for review and broader zoning regulations were discussed amid public opposition.
The Chillicothe City Council is continuing to study a proposed data center at the former Chilpaco site. Attorney Brodi J. Conover of Bricker Graydon Wyatt Attorneys briefed the council’s Engineering Committee on legal and regulatory issues, including the use of zoning to control data center development.
Councilwoman Kathy Dunn said a revised moratorium excluding the Chilpaco property but pausing data centers elsewhere had been forwarded to the law director for review. She also cited concerns about lengthy construction, heavy traffic, road damage, noise, electricity-related rate increases, and substantial water and wastewater demands. Some residents spoke against the project during council meetings, while Dunn said officials must balance potential jobs with public safety and community input.
