Advocacy groups, including Box Elder Accountability Referendum (B.E.A.R.) and Grow the Flow, have scheduled a public forum in Brigham City, Utah, on July 14, to provide updates on the proposed Stratos Data Center Project in Box Elder County. The event, taking place at the Autoliv Auditorium on the Utah State University campus, aims to inform residents about the development, which the groups are actively opposing in Utah courts.
The Stratos Data Center Project, originally proposed by O’Leary Digital and the Military Installation Development Authority (MIDA) as a 40,000-acre hyperscale facility in the Hansel Valley, has faced significant local opposition. This opposition has been credited with the defeat of incumbent Box Elder County commissioners Boyd Bingham and Lee Perry, who had initially approved the project, in the June 23 GOP primary. Additionally, Utah Senate President Stuart Adams, who chaired the MIDA board, also lost his re-election bid, and MIDA has seen a change in its executive director.
Farrar Pliley, a B.E.A.R. spokesperson, stated that the forum will feature scientists, community leaders, and Clearfield City Mayor Mark Shepard, a member of MIDA. Attendees will have the opportunity to question panelists and interact with volunteers from the advocacy groups. Residents are encouraged to RSVP online.
